Our Coffee

Daterra Coffee, Brazil.

It all started with a dream, and the story of Daterra Coffee is one that deeply inspires us.

Their journey began in 1902, when an Italian family from Bari set sail for Brazil to build a new life. They settled in Campinas, where they planted coffee and opened a small market stall selling green coffee beans. What set them apart was their willingness to share knowledge, roasting beans themselves and teaching others how to do it. Education, it seemed, was part of their essence from the beginning.

Over generations, that simple act of sharing grew into a legacy of resilience, faith, and responsibility. Family hardship taught them perseverance, while unexpected kindness reminded them of the value of solidarity and giving back. Those values would go on to shape every venture they touched.

In 1976, their entrepreneurial spirit led them back to coffee — this time under the name Daterra, meaning “from the earth.” Whether by fate or design, it was the natural return to the crop that started it all. Today, every bean they produce reflects more than a century of passion, craft, and respect for both people and planet.

Why Daterra

Why Daterra

Daterra’s farms are unlike most. Instead of large, industrial plantations, their coffee grows across 216 mini-farms, each only 5 to 15 hectares, individually mapped by GPS and tended with the same care a farmer would give to his own garden. Every plot is known, monitored, and harvested at its unique peak of ripeness.

Their precision extends through every step: cherries are sorted using groundbreaking technology developed over more than a decade, beans are dried slowly and rested for over 40 days, and final batches are meticulously cleaned using advanced optical sorting systems. The result is coffee that is extraordinarily pure, complex, balanced, and deeply expressive of its terroir.

Rooted in Sustainability

Rooted in Sustainability

Daterra’s approach to sustainability began long before it became a global conversation. Established in the 1980s, their mission was to produce world-class coffee while restoring and protecting Brazil’s natural ecosystems. After acquiring land in Cerrado Mineiro, they worked with the University of São Paulo (ESALQ) to rebuild local biodiversity through their Program for Environmental Adequacy (PEA) a pioneering model for sustainable farming.

Their decades of commitment made Daterra Brazil’s, first Rainforest Alliance and ISO 14001 certified coffee farm. They later earned UTZ Kapeh and IBD Organic certifications, setting a global benchmark for ethical and environmentally responsible production. Yet, their philosophy goes beyond certification it’s about continuous learning, innovation, and sharing knowledge with smaller producers to strengthen the future of coffee itself.

Growing Relationship Coffee

Growing Relationship Coffee

Daterra’s guiding principle, Growing Relationship Coffee, perfectly captures why they’re our chosen coffee partner. Their work is built on authentic relationships, with the land they nurture, the communities they support, and the clients they collaborate with around the world.

Like us, they believe that excellence comes from connection: between people, purpose, and planet. That’s why we’re proud to serve Daterra coffee, coffee that not only tastes remarkable but carries a story of integrity, stewardship, and hope in every cup.
